ZAKK WYLDE Talks About The Inspiration For 'Mafia'

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY mainman Zakk Wylde recently spoke to Australia's Time Off about the group's latest album, "Mafia", which came out earlier in the month.

"When I make a record, I just do the best job I can at that moment in time," Wylde said of the effort. "It's not that I'm not proud of all the other records. I was still doing the best I could on those records. Just give it your best shot and wherever the chips lay, man, that's it... you just try and write some kick-ass songs and you just call it a fucking day after that. It is what it is."

Regarding the inspiration for the album's opening track, "Fire It Up", Wylde said, "To me, lyrics are everywhere, and you can interpret that any way. If you watch the news you've got a box set right there. It's like, 'Mr. President, you want the bad news or the bad news?' That's what the lyrics are about, you know. 'Fire It Up' is pretty self explanatory: 'Face your fear, accept your war, it is what it is.' You can never get away from it.

"I'll be sitting there watching TV about Syria or Lebanon and there's this guy — super cool, got six kids — trying to help get peace back in the region and what do they do? They end up killing him for it! It's like this has been going on since the beginning of fucking time and it's not going to stop any time soon."
